The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced a temporary increase in train services on the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service corridor ahead of the Sallah celebration.

In a statement on Saturday by the Chief Public Relations Officer of the NRC, Callistus Unyimadu, the corporation said the adjustment, scheduled for Tuesday, 26 May, 2026, was aimed at accommodating the expected rise in passenger traffic during the festive period.

‘The temporary adjustment is aimed at accommodating the expected increase in passenger movement as many Nigerians travel to celebrate the festive season with their families and loved ones’, the statement read.

Under the arrangement, the NRC said it would operate six train trips on the Lagos-Ibadan corridor instead of the usual four on Tuesdays.

According to the corporation, train departures from Lagos will be at 7:45 am, 1:40 pm, and 4:00 pm, while departures from Ibadan will be at 8:00 am, 10:50 am, and 4:30 pm.

The management clarified that the arrangement was temporary and would apply only during the Sallah travel period.

‘Immediately after the celebration, the normal Tuesday timetable of four trips will resume’, it stated.

The NRC also disclosed that the recently introduced Thursday six-trip operations would be temporarily adjusted next week, with only four trips scheduled for Thursday, 28 May 2026.

‘The regular six-trip Thursday schedule will however resume the following week’, the statement added.

Meanwhile, the corporation announced that the Osun State Government would operate its annual free Sallah train service on the NRC narrow-gauge corridor for indigenes travelling home to celebrate the festival in Osogbo.

According to the statement, the special train will depart from Iddo Station, Lagos, on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, while the return trip from Osogbo to Lagos will take place on Thursday, 28 May, 2026.

The NRC explained that the service, usually operated during festive periods, was being sponsored by the Osun State Government through a paid arrangement with the corporation.

‘The service, which is usually operated during festive periods, is being sponsored by the Osun State Government through a paid arrangement with the Nigerian Railway Corporation to convey Osun indigenes free of charge for the Sallah celebration’, the statement read.

The corporation reassured passengers of its commitment to providing ‘safe, efficient and reliable rail transportation services across the country’, and wished Nigerians a peaceful Sallah celebration.
