Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has mourned the passage of a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abayomi Kinyomi.

Kinyomi, who died on Tuesday at 82, was the Speaker of the state House of Assembly between January 1992 and November 1993 during the governorship tenure of Sir Michael Otedola.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Gboyega Akosile, the Governor described a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a trustworthy and committed member of the ruling party.

Sanwo-Olu said the former lawmaker spent his life in the service of humanity and the state, particularly as a lawmaker in the House of Assembly.

“The death of Rt. Hon. Abayomi Kinyomi is a big loss to Lagos State Government, our party, the All Progressives Congress, his family and friends. Papa Kinyomi did his best by serving Lagos State passionately as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly during the Third Republic. He was also a committed member of our great party, APC till his death.

“I pray that God would grant the soul of our beloved Papa Abayomi Kinyomi eternal rest and comfort the immediate and political families he left behind”, the Governor said.

The current Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa also described his predecessor’s demise as a great loss.

A statement on Wednesday by his spokesman Eromosele Ebhomele, Obasa said Kinyomi would be missed for his contributions to the state’s advancement.

The Speaker urged the family, friends, and associates to take solace in the fact that the deceased lived a life of service to humanity.

“Rt. Hon. Kinyomi lived a good life both privately and in public office in which he served Lagos diligently and passionately.

“His service and love for Lagos State can never be forgotten”, the Speaker noted.

On behalf of his colleagues, Obasa prayed to Allah to grant Kinyomi eternal rest and give those he left behind the strength to carry on.
