The national leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on last Thursday’s validation of his electoral victory by the Supreme Court.

According to a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ambassador Rufus Aiyenigba, its National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam commended what it described as the “historic judicial action of their Lordships for doing justice by dealing with the contentious issues in an unimpeachable fashion, thereby, deepening our political jurisprudence and our faith in democracy”.

SDP then called on all Nigerians, particularly the political class, to rally the essential solidarity and support for the President in his efforts to rebuild the country through the “well-thought-out Renewed Hope Agenda”

It urged President Tinubu to enhance implementation of strategic national retrieval economic policies, and to keep expanding the frontiers of national development programmes by being deliberate and intentional in reinforcing national unity, integration, and economic revitalisation.

The statement read: “The national leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) under the National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, heartily congratulates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on the validation of his electoral victory by the Supreme Court on Thursday, 26th October 2023, which affirmed his election as the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Party commends the historic judicial action of their Lordships for doing justice by dealing with the contentious issues in an unimpeachable fashion, thereby, deepening our political jurisprudence and our faith in democracy.

“The SDP hereby calls on all Nigerians, particularly the political class to rally the essential solidarity and support for the President in his efforts to rebuild the country through the well-thought-out Renewed Hope Agenda. We also use this momentous occasion to call on Mr President, who is renowned as a true democrat and a celebrated Nigerian patriot, to enhance implementation of strategic national retrieval economic policies, and also to keep expanding the frontiers of national development programmes by being deliberate and intentional in reinforcing national unity, integration, and economic revitalization.

“The SDP also expresses great confidence in Mr President’s statecraft, capacity, and commitment to engender good Nigerian society and achieve noble legacies, particularly his manifest disposition to strengthen our electoral system by delivering free, fair and credible off-season governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi States in the next two weeks.

“While calling for all hands to be on deck on this journey to build a new and strong Nigeria, the Party calls on the Legislature, Judiciary, Media, all segments of the society, and essential building-blocks of the country to work in harmony with the President to fast-track the return to national productivity so as to achieve a great Nigeria for all.

“Finally, the SDP humbly and respectfully wish to call the attention of the President to the prevailing economic hardship that Nigerians are currently going through at this time. This is prevalent in all classes and categories of people and across all communities. The President therefore needs to bring to the fore, very quickly, his ingenuity, innovative solutions, famed economic management skills and wealth-creation acumen by deploring strategic, broad-based people-centred economic programmes and social welfare interventions to significantly ameliorate the current economic crisis and declining standards of living.

“May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
