The Senate has stayed action on the nomination of former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai and two others, while confirming the other 45 on the list sent to the upper legislative chamber by President Bola Tinubu.

El-Rufai, along with Stella Okotete (Delta State) and Sani Abubakar Danladi (Taraba State) are undoing security clearance.

Although Senate President Godwill Akpabio did not mention the three nominees, but they were the only ones whose names where not announced during the process of confirmation of the nominees.

Among the ministerial nominees cleared were former Governors Nyesom Wike, Gboyega Oyetola, Simon Lalong, Bello Matawale, Ibrahim Geidam and Mohammed Abubakar Badaru.

Also cleared were Mr. Dele Alake, who until last week was the presidential spokesman; Prof. Ali Pate; Mr Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); Dr. (Mrs.) Betta Edu and Dr. Tunji Alausa.

The North West zone has the highest number of nominees (10), followed by the South West (9), North East and South South (8 each), while the South East has only the statutory five nominees.

The list generated concern from Senators from the South East, whose joint motion was about to be moved by Senator Tony Nwoye (LP, Anambra North) when the Senate President invited Nwoye and the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.

At the end of their discussion, Akpabio announced that he would take up the complaint by the South East with the President.
