An umbrella body of Are-Ekiti socio-cultural groups, Are-Ekiti Development Association (ÀŔEDAA) has applauded the appointment of business leader, Dr. Olatunji Olowolafe as the Chancellor of Ekiti State University.
The appointment of the Are-Ekiti indigene was made by the Ekiti State government on Friday.
In a statement in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, ÀRÉDAA’s Secretary General, Hon. Yemi Akinbode said: “On behalf of Kabiyesi Alare of Are-Ekiti, His Royal Majesty, Oba Boluade Adebiyi, ÀŔEDAA and the entire sons and daughters of Are Ekiri at home and in Diaspora, we wish to rejoice with you on your appointment as the Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti by His Excellency, Biodun Oyebanji, the Governor of Ekiti State. This appointment is in recognition of your experience, excellent reputation and influence in the Nigerian society. The entire people of Are Ekiti are proud of you and wishes to felicitate with you on your recognition”.
According to the statement, Are-Ekiti people have no doubt in their minds about Olowolafe’s competence and capability in turning around the fortune of the university and its students during his tenure as Chancellor.
The umbrella body said: “ÀRÉDAA is confident that you will bring your long years of management and leadership experience to bear, in turning around the fortune of the university and its students. All over the world you are known for your positive energy and quality. It is obvious that your choice is very strategic and purposeful. Governor Oyebanji knows the education, exposure and quality that you parades, hence your choice as the new Chancellor to help improve the quality of education and fortunes of our children”.
ÀRÉDAA called on Chancellor to use the opportunity of his appointment to give back to the Ekiti society, and lauded the governor’s decision to appoint Olowolafe, appealing to him to give the new Chancellor all the support that is required to accomplish the task ahead.
Olowolafe, is a medical practitioner-turned-businessman with decades of professional experience and acute boardroom reputation.
He is the Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director of Deux Project Limited, a civil engineering, construction, consultancy, and maintenance company, which he co-founded in 1988. He had previously served as a member of Ekiti State Covid-19 Resource Mobilisation Committee.
A graduate of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Olowolafe had a brief stint in medical practice before going into business.
He’s also the Founder of Generic Product Limited, which he launched in 1996, and the Chairman/Managing Director of Deux Investment Limited.
