The Director General of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Dr. Ifeanyi Okeke has thanked Governor Muhammadu Yahaya for allocating a piece of land for the construction of the SON’s North-East Regional office and a training school in Gombe State.

Okeke, who was represented by the North-East Regional Director of SON, James Yakzum, spoke during a courtesy call on the governor on Thursday.

He said, ‘We are enthused by the governor’s magnanimity. The soon-to-be-established training school will focus on mentoring individuals within and outside the state on the production and packaging of spices for export.’

The DG also commended the governor’s administration for consistently providing support to the organisation, enabling it to carry out its constitutional responsibilities.

‘Apart from the piece of land allocated to us, the administration of Governor Inuwa Yahaya has consistently provided us with support,’ he said.

In response, Yahaya, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Prof Ibrahim Njodi, said, ‘We delight in providing an enabling environment for government institutions to function optimally.’

Yahaya advised SON to utilise the numerous media organisations in the state to sensitise the public on their rights and responsibilities regarding the quality of goods and services.

‘It is within the right of any Nigerian patronising goods and services to get value for their money,’ he emphasised.

The governor also stressed the need for the SON to increase its public enlightenment campaign, describing Nigerians as an “endangered species” due to the high level of production and packaging of substandard products, saying ‘More public engagement still needs to be done’.
