No fewer than 500,000 students have applied for loans through the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) portal.
NELFUND described the development as a milestone in its first year of operation.
In a statement by its Director of Corporate Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND said the milestone, achieved within just 11 months of operations, underscored the critical need for accessible student financing in Nigeria.
The fund said it also highlighted the widespread trust in NELFUND’s mission to democratise access to tertiary education.
‘This is more than just a number; it’s a signal of hope for families across Nigeria. We are witnessing a nationwide demand for the opportunity, and NELFUND is proud to be at the heart of this transformation’, said the Managing Director of NELFUND, Mr Akintunde Sawyerr.
NELFUND said it remained committed to ensuring transparency, accessibility, and efficiency as the process continues, calling on all stakeholders to join in supporting the vision of equitable education for all.
