A yet-to-be-identified body of a male vandal was discovered electrocuted on Sunday near a transformer inside Borno State University.
A statement released by the spokesperson for the Borno state police command, Assistant Superintendent (ASP) Nahum Daso, said the investigation has commenced, while the body has been transferred to the hospital for proper medical procedures.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was electrocuted in an attempt to vandalise electrical installations.
The statement reads, ‘The Borno State Police Command wishes to inform the public that today, 7/9/2025, the body of an unidentified male was discovered near a transformer in Borno State University, Maiduguri.

According to him, the Command has since commenced a full investigation into the incident, while the body, in collaboration with the Borno State Fire Service, has been evacuated to the hospital for proper medical procedures.

Daso reassured the people of Borno State of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements around public infrastructure to the nearest police station.
PUNCH Online reports that the development comes as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) clamour for the introduction of harsher punishments for vandals targeting critical national assets and infrastructure.
Speaking from his office in Abuja on Monday, NSCDC Commandant, Federal Capital Territory Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu expressed concern over the increasing rate of repeat offences among those arrested for vandalism.
He attributed this trend to what he described as lenient court sentences that fail to deter criminal activity.
