Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, while reflecting on Nigeria’s journey in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, has urged Nigerians to unite despite economic challenges.

In a statement on Monday via X, Musa wrote: “I’m filled with immense pride for the Nigerian Super Eagles.

He said: “Though we may have fallen short of the championship, our unity on the field transcended religious and tribal differences, reminding us of the power of football to bring us together.”

According to Musa, despite a disappointing ending that saw the Super Eagles stumble at the final after Côte d’Ivoire defeated Nigeria 2-1, the team displayed resilience and determination that resonated deeply with fans across Nigeria.

“Our team stood strong, displaying resilience and determination that resonated with fans across the nation. Your unwavering dedication and chants lifted us higher than ever before”.

He called upon Nigerians to carry this spirit of unity beyond the football pitch and into daily life.

“As we face the hurdles ahead, let’s remember that together, we are stronger. Let’s channel the same energy and comradeship we experienced during the tournament into tackling the obstacles that lie ahead”.

Musa emphasised football’s power to unite Nigerians across traditional divides.

“Let’s embrace our diversity as a strength and stand united as one nation, one team, one family,” Musa stated.

Musa thanked the fans for their dedication and support. “Thank you, Nigeria, for your undying support. Let’s continue to strive for greatness, both on and off the field”, he said.

Sebastien Haller of Côte d’Ivoire scored a dramatic late winner as hosts Ivory Coast fought back to beat Nigeria 2-1 in the AFCON final on Sunday and complete the most remarkable of major tournament turnarounds by claiming their third continental title.
