The Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Joseph Kunini has condemned in strong terms the bomb explosion that rocked a section of the cattle market at Iware community in Ardo Kola Local Government Area on Tuesday, which killed no fewer than five persons and injured scores of others.

During Wednesday’s plenary session, the Speaker described the dastardly act by the faceless people as bestial and inhuman, considering the fact that the state had enjoyed relative peace.

Prof. Kunini decried the disdainful and dastardly act by the miscreants as it came at the time when the state government had, according to him, done everything humanly possible for peace to reign in the state and ensure the security of lives and property of the people.

Against this backdrop, the Speaker urged the security agencies to brace up to tackle the ugly trend head on, because the state, which is considered the most peaceful in the Northeast zone, could not afford to witness the carnage and new wave of terrorism.

He further called on citizens of the state to be vigilant and conscious of the people they relate with, as well as report suspicious persons to the appropriate authorities, especially with the commencement of the electioneering campaigns.

Prof. Kunini also condoled Ardo Kola Local Government Council, the District Head of Iware and the state government on the ugly incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abdullahi Usman, who confirmed the incident to Channels Television, noted that Tuesday’s blast was the second time the area would experience such explosion, with the first at a Catholic School in Mutum Biyu, the headquarters of Gassol Local Government Area, a month ago.

Usman added that security operatives had been drafted to the scene to commence investigation as well as douse the tension already created.

Iware community is known for its cattle market and attracts buyers from all over the country and neigbouring Cameroon, who storm the market every Tuesday to make purchases at affordable prices.

Sunday Pantuvo, who narrowly escaped with injuries, said the alleged bomber came to the drinking joint with a friend as customers, ordered for a drink and left in separate ways.

The alleged bomber later returned, paid for the drink and dropped a polythene bag, which was said to contain the explosive, and stepped aside.

Few minutes later, Pantuvo said he went in search of his friend and seconds after, the bomb exploded.

Pantuvo said one of the suspected bombers was later caught and killed by the angry residents who cut his body into parts in anger.
