President Bola Tinubu, on Sunday, congratulated Lebanese-Nigerian business mogul, Gilbert Chagoury, as he marks his 78th birthday on 8 January.

“Gilbert is a shining light in any room. He is compassionate, discerning, and totally reliable in every respect”, President Tinubu said in a congratulatory statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

The statement is titled, ‘President Tinubu celebrates business tycoon, Gilbert Chagoury, on birthday’.

Gilbert Chagoury was born in Lagos, Nigeria to Lebanese immigrant parents on 8 January 1946.

In 1971, he alongside his brother, Ronald Chagoury, founded the Chagoury Group, an industrial conglomerate encompassing various sectors including construction, real estate and property development, flour mills, water bottling and purification, glass manufacturing, insurance, hotels, furniture manufacturing, telecommunications, information technology, catering, and international financing.

According to Ngelale, the President appreciated Chagoury’s consistency and reliability demonstrated throughout his storied career, noting his desire to see Nigeria rise to the highest of heights in all spheres of human endeavour.

He recalled how the Chagoury family kept faith with Africa’s largest economy by continually investing in various projects and philanthropic activities over the decades, irrespective of all the socio-political challenges that characterized the road to the nation’s return to civilian rule in 1999 and beyond.

President Tinubu said “He has invested in our country in both good and bad times. He is generous with both his heart and his resources.

“With friends like him, one can sleep with a still mind. He is a valuable and cherished person who is worthy of celebration.
