President Bola Tinubu and former President Olusegun Obasanjo were among the top dignitaries at the inauguration of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma for a second term in office on Monday.

He also inaugurated the redesigned Sam Mbakwe International Airport Road, Owerri which is renamed Bola Tinubu Drive.

President Tinubu, who was earlier at an event in Abuja for the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, landed at the Sam Mbakwe International Airport around 1 pm.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas were also in attendance, while Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo was represented by his deputy, Onyekachi Ibezim.

Residents trooped out en-masse for the swearing-in event. They wore colourful attire as they marched through the streets to the Dan Anyiam Stadium.

Monday’s inauguration came about two months after Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress won a second term in office, defeating his closest rivals Senator Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party’s Sir. Athan Achonu

The governor got 540,308 votes, the PDP candidate secured 71, 503 votes, and Achonu polled 64,081 votes.

The redesigned Airport Road was upgraded from a dualised two-lane to a four-lane highway fitted with street lights from Owerri-Aba Road to the Airport.
