The Lagos State chapter of the Muslim Congress (TMC) has congratulated Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat on their second term inauguration.

Its Waali (Chairman), Tajudeen Olusesi described the duo’s re-election as the peak of re-enactment of the confidence of the people of Lagos in their administration.

Olusesi reminded them that governmental positions, like others, are held in trust.

He said: “The responsibilities become more evident, following the clear dangerous insignia of polarization among major ethnic nationals residing in the state in the build-up to the general elections…

“We urge you to see the entire people of the state as yours. In fact, our law presupposes that the totality of the state is your constituency. We expect governance with more vigour, vision and excellence that will optimally harness the economic, political and social potentials of Lagos. Indeed, non-discriminatory and excellence-driven governance with life-changing and people-oriented policies and top-notch infrastructural and social services will heal whatever wound in the heart of the people with the speed of light.

“We need to remind you that, many roads are appalling within the metropolis, government/central pipe borne water remains a tall order in the state, primary and secondary schools are still overcrowded despite your modest intervention in the last dispensation, hijab using female school children still suffer intimidation and discrimination in the hands of some teaching staff, traffic congestion appears to be getting worse while more needs to be made on quantitative and qualitative health care. Housing deficit which pushes the cost of decent housing almost out of the reach of the average wage/salary earner remains unresolved.

“It is our hope that you will take advantage of the decentralization of power and rail services by the federal government to improve on power and transport services which incidentally is part of your T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda and Dangote refinery provides the state refreshing hope particularly on power and petrochemicals. We hope you take advantage of the opportunities for the good people of Lagos.

“May Allah grant you the ability, knowledge, wisdom, courage, good sense of judgement and all necessary resources you require to take Lagos to a greater height”.

During his inauguration address on Monday, the Governor announced Social Inclusion, Youth and Gender Equality as additional priorities in his governing agenda. Before then, T.H.E.M.E.S represented Transportation and Traffic Management; Health and Environment; Education and Technology; Making Lagos State a 21st Century Megacity, Entertainment and Tourism; and Security and Governance.
