In its bid to contribute to the eradication of illiteracy and empower the youth with needed tools and skills, TotalEnergies L.E.A.D Career project and JA Nigeria (JAN) have organised a career growth programme for selected secondary school students across the country.
According to a statement from the energy firm, the 10th edition of the initiative, which is tagged ‘L.E.A.D career programme’ has the theme ‘Building a sustainable future through youth leadership’ and was held in Lagos recently.
The programme, which was centred on career planning, collaboration, communication, and conflict management was divided into three segments- interactive session, job shadowing and visitation to TotalEnergies depot.
Addressing the students on their career path, the General Manager of TotalEnergies’ Country Services, Adesua Adewole, encouraged the students to set goals for themselves and also pursue them.
She advised them to always set laid down rules as a means to achieving their goals in line with their career path.
Also, Mr Israel Okeyinya, who is a climate change and sustainability expert for FABE, took the students on the rudiments of climate change and how it affects humanity.
He also exposed the students to the Sustainable Development Goals and their significance to the country’s economy.
In his address, the Managing Director of TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria PLC, Dr Samba Seye, remarked that the initiative started in 2014 from a physical event to a hybrid with increased participation across the country.
“TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc. has implemented this programme in 154 schools with over 3,740 students benefiting directly.”
Seye added, “The company is committed to the education of young people, and as such, places a high premium on educational initiatives such as the L.E.A.D Career project. The contribution of education in the development of any country cannot be overemphasised.”
Principal Education Officer, Education District 4, Mrs Omolaoye Adebisi, stated that the Lagos State Ministry of Education was passionate about students’ development and encouraged partnerships with organisations like TotalEnergies.
She also encouraged female students to explore the field of engineering like their male counterparts.
