As the Muslim faithful mark Eid-al-Fitr, the National Population Commission (NPC) has urged Muslim leaders in the country to take advantage of the occasion to sensitize and mobilize the masses to get involved and support the conduct of the 2023 Population and Housing Census.
In a statement by its Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Isiaka Yahaya, the Commission made the plea on Saturday while felicitating with the faithful for completing the month-long Ramadan fast.
According to the statement, preparations are in the final stage for the NPC to deliver to the country its first fully digital Population and Housing Census that will be credible and acceptable to all.
“Nigeria’s 2023 Census will be fully digital and will be conducted in accordance with the United Nations Principles and Recommendations for the 2020 Programme on Population and Housing Censuses”, it said.
In the statement, NPC, however, stressed that the methodology of the exercise will make it difficult to manipulate figures, while ensuring that everyone resident in the country at the time of the enumeration is counted.
While congratulating Muslim faithful on the occasion of this year’s Eid-al-Fitr, the Commission tasked them to uphold the vital lessons of Ramadan including piety, generosity, perseverance and peaceful coexistence among others.
