Veteran gospel singer Evangelist Toun Soetan has died at 72.
The news was announced by the family on social media on Friday.
The post features a poster of her image and a note which read, ‘This is to announce the home calling of our Loving mother, Evangelist Rachel Olatoun Soetan. This call to Glory incident occurred this morning, Friday, 13th March, 2026.
‘Let us all commisserate with Daddy Soetan and the entire family’.
Details about the circumstances of her death were not immediately disclosed by the family.
Soetan was widely known in Nigerian gospel music circles as a singer, evangelist and worship leader whose ministry spanned several decades. She was also a trained teacher who later devoted herself fully to gospel music and ministry.
Born in Lagos and raised in Ibadan, Oyo State, she gave her life to Christ in 1974 after attending a revival service at Oritamefa Baptist Church, an experience she said marked the beginning of her music ministry.
She became known for gospel songs and praise music used widely in churches. Among her well known songs are ‘Iye Ree,’ ‘Gbe Jesus Ga’ and ‘Train Up Your Child’.
Soetan founded Trinity World Evangelical Ministries and also ran Trinity School of Worship where she trained musicians and gospel ministers.
Throughout her career, she ministered in churches, crusades and Christian gatherings within and outside Nigeria.
She is survived by her husband and family. Further details about funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
