Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed his administration’s commitment to deepening a stronger collaboration with the Japanese government to fast-track the transformation of Abuja in line with its master plan.
He gave the assurance in Abuja during the courtesy visit of the Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Suzuki Hideo, alongside officials of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The minister specifically lauded Japan’s role in the development and review of the Abuja Master Plan, describing it as critical to the city’s long-term growth.
Wike also acknowledged the Asian nation’s interventions in Nigeria’s education sector, including training programmes for teachers and support for quality learning infrastructure.
He identified agriculture and urban development as priority areas for future collaboration, assuring the Japanese delegation of the FCT Administration’s (FCTA)commitment to provide an enabling environment for sustainable partnership.
On his part, the envoy reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to Nigeria’s development, noting that Abuja remains central to the country’s progress as its political and administrative capital.
He disclosed that the Asian giant is also advancing projects in waste management and industrial development, including a plastics value chain initiative, in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), with a pilot facility set for handover.
The envoy further highlighted ongoing efforts to upgrade the Abuja Master Plan through JICA, aimed at improving residents’ quality of life and supporting sustainable urban growth.
Also speaking, the Chief Representative of JICA Nigeria Office, Ishigame Keiji, outlined the agency’s wide-ranging interventions across water, power, health, agriculture, and education sectors in the FCT.
BESIDES, former Senate Minority Leader, Philip Aduda, has declared that the emerging ‘Rainbow Coalition’ under the leadership of the FCT minister would mobilise massive support to secure victory for President Bola Tinubu at the 2027 general elections.
Aduda spoke yesterday in Abuja while receiving key stakeholders across the Area Councils of the FCT, who pledged support for his political movement under the ‘Renewed Hope Ambassadors’.
The delegation—comprising the ALGON Chairman in the FCT, current and former vice chairmen, exco members, and council leaders—also met with representatives of the national and zonal leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), formally aligning with the ruling party.
Among those present were chairmen from Kwali, Kuje, and Bwari Area Councils, alongside the FCT Public Complaints Commissioner, Isyaku Yamawo.
Their defection marks a significant shift in the FCT political landscape, further strengthening the APC’s grassroots structure in the territory.
Aduda said their decision to join the APC was driven by growing confidence in the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of President Tinubu, noting that recent developments in the FCT have rekindled optimism among residents.
In his remarks, the FCT ALGON Chairman, Danladi Chiya, who chairs the Kwali area council, described the defection as a strategic alignment with the centre to unlock more development opportunities for the territory.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Kuje Area Council Chairman, Abdullahi Sabo, explained that their move was aimed at adding value to governance and supporting efforts to improve the welfare of the people.
He pledged that the new political alignment would be driven by unity, inclusiveness, and merit-based leadership.
