Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have taken control of the party’s state secretariat in Ibadan.
The secretariat, located in the Molete area of the Oyo State capital, had been occupied by the faction aligned with Governor Seyi Makinde until Thursday, when supporters of Wike moved into the premises.
Witnesses said hundreds of party members accompanied the group as they occupied the secretariat.
The Chairman of the PDP in Oyo State, Prof. Abdulrahman Akinoso, confirmed the development in a telephone interview with journalists.
“It is true. It is not a faction. It is the PDP. We have taken over the premises. It happened in the morning. We were there and we are now in control,” Akinoso said.
The circumstances surrounding the takeover were not immediately clear, and there was no immediate reaction from the faction loyal to Governor Makinde at the time of filing this report.
