The Editorial Board of Penpushing Media, in collaboration with the organisation’s Annual Anniversary Lecture Planning Committee, has launched an award for outstanding mass media undergraduates in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The inaugural award winners were: Fawaz Adebisi of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), who came first; Muhson Ashimi of Crescent University (second); and Boluwatife Victoria Olaitan, also of MAPOLY, who finished third.
The maiden edition of the award was held last Thursday during the seventh anniversary lecture of the media outfit, owners of Penpushing online newspaper and television, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. The award assesses the news writing proficiency of students selected from some tertiary institutions.
Students from Crescent University, MAPOLY, Harvarde College of Science and Management Studies, DS Adegbenro Polytechnic and Olabisi Onabanjo University participated in the process.
Seasoned journalists, including the Editorial Board Chairman of Penpushing Media, Deaconess Funke Fadugba; and two other members of that board – Otunba Gbenga Onayiga and Mr. Yemisi Fadairo – supervised and conducted the competition.
At the well-attended ceremony, which was witnessed by dignitaries, the winners went home with certificates, cash gifts, and journalism books to support their academic performances and pursuits.
The presentation of the awards to the winners was done the keynote speaker at the lecture, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister; Chairperson of the Planning Committee, Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi; Editorial Board member, Sir Eddy Aina; and a former Ogun State Head of Service, Elder Sola Adeyemi.
The award initiative was jointly approved by the Editorial Board of Penpushing Media and the lecture’s Planning Committee, at a meeting ahead of the seventh anniversary lecture. It is primarily aimed at encouraging upcoming media practitioners.
Also included in the Editorial Board are the Founder of Penpushing Media, Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, Barrister Benjamin Ogunmodede, Chief Femi Shodunke.
The anniversary Planning Committee include Sina Adefolahan (Secretary), Seun Sodiya, Onayiga, Hon. Remmy Hazzan, Toyin Ogunbomehin, Dr. Adewunmi Alayaki and Fadairo.
Jn his welcome address, Kayode-Adedeji explained that Penpushing Media, as part of its policy to contribute to the growth in the media profession, has trained over 80 Mass Communication undergraduates of various tertiary institutions.
