The lifeless body of a 53-year-old woman, Amarachi Nwanozie has been discovered near her farm at Ngwama village, Isiala Ngwa South LGA of Abia State.

Her corpse was discovered naked by men of Abia State Community Policing/Vigilante Service two days after the victim was declared missing by her husband.

A village source told newsmen that the farmer, who was popular in the community for her industrious farming output, went to one of her farms in the morning of last Tuesday but did not return at nightfall, which made her husband raise an alarm about his wife’s non-return.

According to the villager, the matter was reported to men of the Abia State Community Policing and Vigilante Group in Isiala Ngwa South, who organised a search party together with some other members of the Ngwama community.

It was reported that her dead body was later discovered near her farm on Thursday by the search team, with bruises around her private parts that suggested that she may have been raped to death by unknown hoodlums.

The victim’s mobile phone and a bunch of cassava stems were found beside her decomposing corpse.

The corpse was later evacuated and deposited in an undisclosed mortuary.

It was also gathered that the men of the Isiala Ngwa South Community Policing and Vigilante Group have arrested six persons suspected of carrying out the crime and handed them over to the Omoba Division of the Nigeria Police for investigation.

The Abia State Police Command has yet to comment on the matter.

Police Public Relations Officer for the state, Assistant Superintendent Chioma Maureen Chinaka told newsmen her office had yet to be briefed about the crime.
