The Yoruba Council Worldwide (YCM), on Thursday, bestowed “Responsible Online Media” award to Penpushing Media in recognition of its professionalism journalism across the globe.

Penpushing reports that the award was part of activities to mark the 26th anniversary and seventh annual world festival award of the council tagged, “Isokan Omoluabi 2025”, held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The colourful and well packaged ceremony had in attendance several traditional rulers in the Southwest region, and other dignitaries within and outside the country, while there were cultural and dance performances by the state Council of Arts and Culture.

While presenting that the award to Penpushing Media, the Global President/President of the Yoruba Council Worldwide (YCM), Aare Oladotun Hassan acknowledged the role of journalism in promoting Yoruba culture among others.

Barrister Hassan emphasised that the award was in recognition of the media outlet’s integrity, hardwork and monumental contributions towards the development and adding values to the society

Hassan explained that the award, known as “Ayelujara Onirohin Omoluabi Agbaye” (Globally Responsible Online Media), was well deserved and that the organisation is eminently qualified for the honour.

He said that the epochal event was set to gather a diverse array of stakeholders dedicated to the peace, development, progress and unity of Yorubaland

Hassan further said: ‘This landmark festival will see the congregation of all Yoruba kings, traditional institutions, policy makers, governors, legislators, captains of industries, eminent Yoruba sons and daughters, academia and other great leaders of our time.

‘It is indeed a new dawn in our history today as we move in unison towards the actualisation of the age-long ancestral Yoruba Development Agenda for the overall benefits of the generation now and yet unborn’.

Penpushing reports that the leader of the council disclosed the cardinal objectives of the body which he said include addressing some challenges facing Yoruba heritage and current state of the nation.

The President said these include insecurity, economic downturn and maladministration pervasive in the society today, to foster unity between traditional institutions and leaders, as well as to provide a solid foundation for socio-economic integration.

Other objectives of the group include the reintegration of Yoruba laws, enactment of the old 1952-1963 Constitution/ Western Region laws, postulated by Chief Obafemi Awolowo, into the new people’s Constitution for Nigeria, or a separate Southwest independent law passed by all states in the region, just as the Islamic Sharia laws of the Norther Nigeria is given a pride of place in the 1999 Constitution.

Receiving the award on behalf of the management, the editorial board and membership of the platform across the globe, the Founder of Penpushing Media, Dr. Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji expressed appreciation to the council.

He said the award was motivational and would further encourage the media organisation, owner of online newspapers and television, to be more proactive in its aims of turning round journalism for better.

Kayode-Adedeji, however, assured that Penpushing Media would continue to be relevant in responsible journalism, and would not relent its fight against fake news and unethical practice in the profession.
