The Yoruba Initiative has announced the death of its Board of Trustees chairperson Professor (Canon) Adebisi Sowunmi, who died at the age of 85.

‘It is with deep regret and profound gratitude that The Yoruba Initiative announces the passing of our revered Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Prof. (Canon) Adebisi Sowunmi, at the age of 85.
‘Prof. Sowunmi was a distinguished academic and a forthright leader whose life was a testament to service, scholarship, and spiritual commitment. A former professor at the University of Ibadan and a canon of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), she embodied the virtues of integrity, intellectual depth, and unshakable conviction.
‘As Chairperson of our Board of Trustees, she brought to bear her decades of wisdom and an unwavering dedication to the ideals of the Yoruba people. She was not only a custodian of knowledge but also a champion of social transformation. Her ability to blend erudition with moral clarity made her a beacon for all who came in contact with her.
