National chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda says he will defend the position that only party members should be offered political appointments in 2027.

Yilwatda spoke in Abuja during the ‘Renewed hope promise kept 2027’, a meet-and-greet event for north-west youth mobilisation organised by Bello Goronyo, minister of state for works.

The APC national chairman said members of the party will be encouraged to take up political appointments and not technocrats.

Yilwatda said technocrats should be engaged as consultants rather than appointed to political positions.

‘In 2027, as the party chairman, I will stand strong to defend the position that if you are not prepared to join us, you should not be given appointments’, he said.

‘We encourage and support the members of the political party to be in a position.

‘If you are a technocrat, go and be a consultant but not take political appointments and not go back to support the party that brought you to power.

‘If all of the appointees decided to become technocrats, the party will never return back to power. So, there is nothing like technocrats.

‘As the party chairman, I stand with the position that they (referring to non-APC members who were offered appointments) are political appointees of our party, the APC’.

The APC national chairman said the north-west geopolitical zone has the highest registered members so far in the party’s ongoing electronic registration exercise.

The stance of the APC national chairman might affect the reappointment of Nyesom Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in 2027.
