The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade I, has described Africa’s foremost industrialist, Aliko Dangote, as a visionary leader whose philanthropic milestones remain ‘legendary, exemplary and unparalleled’.
In a congratulatory message to mark Dangote’s 69th birthday, by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the monarch commended the business mogul for his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s economic growth and development.
Oba Owoade said Dangote’s success story reflects a rare blend of vision, innovation, resilience and commitment to national progress, noting that his achievements have culminated in what is globally recognised as the Dangote business and industrial empire.
He described Dangote as not only a dominant industrial player in Nigeria and Africa, but also a global figure whose investments have deepened wealth creation and employment generation.
The monarch particularly praised the impact of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, noting that since its establishment, it has set new standards in philanthropy and humanitarian interventions.
‘Alhaji Aliko Dangote is famed as a paragon of entrepreneurial excellence and an epitome of philanthropy. His philanthropic milestones through the Aliko Dangote Foundation are not only legendary and exemplary but unparalleled’, he said.
According to the Alaafin, Dangote has consistently risen to the occasion in times of need, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting vulnerable populations and advancing social development.
He added that the industrialist’s contributions to Nigeria’s economy, particularly through industrialisation, import substitution, job creation and infrastructure development, have significantly repositioned the country.
‘As the founder of the Dangote Group, he has helped shift Nigeria from a largely import-dependent economy to a more self-sufficient and exporting nation in key sectors such as cement, fertiliser and petrochemicals’, the monarch said.
Oba Owoade also highlighted Dangote’s role as a founding member of the National Peace Committee, chaired by former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, noting that the body has played a crucial role in promoting stability and preventing crises in the country.
He described Dangote as a man driven by a deep sense of purpose, adding that his philanthropic efforts reflect a belief that wealth must be used to uplift society.
‘Alhaji Dangote is inspired by his passion for philanthropy as a man with a large heart who understands that wealth without purpose is a liability’, he said.
The Alaafin congratulated the business magnate on his birthday, praying for continued strength and wisdom as he continues to contribute to national development.
‘You are a visionary leader whose dedication and foresight continue to drive our country to greater heights. Here’s to another year of breaking boundaries and setting new benchmarks’, the monarch added.
