Frontline aspirant for a House of Representatives seat in the 2027 general elections, Hon. Kehinde Bamigbetan, has received an award in politics from popular society magazine, City People.
Bamigbetan, a former Executive Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area, is on the verge of picking the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest the House of Representatives’ seat for Oshodi-Isolo II federal constituency.
Announcing the award, City People‘s publisher, Mr. Seye Kehinde said that the newspaper’s selection committee found Bamigbetan worthy following a review of his political activities in the students’ union, labour union, local government and state administrations.
He said: ‘On behalf of the management of City People magazine, I write to inform you that you have been nominated for the Special Recognition Award in Politics’.
Presenting the award in the magazine’s boardroom on Monday, Kehinde extolled Bamigbetan’s approach to politics, noting that it is driven by intellectual analysis, popular engagement and strategic communications.
The presentation was followed by a comprehensive interview with Bamigbetan on his chances in APC primary scheduled for Monday, and the performance of the Bola Tinubu administration.
Bamigbetan, who was a Special Adviser to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, commended Tinubu’s administration for fulfilling its electoral promises to Nigerians even though it necessitated tough decisions.
He said he deserved to win and fly the party’s ticket, having stepped down in 2015 and 2023 to allow incumbent members of the House of Representatives to run on the party’s platform.
‘I am ready for the party primaries. I was ready to win in 2015 and 2023 before I was persuaded to step down so that the incumbents could run for a second term. I have recharged and retrofitted my political machinery and I am more formidable than ever’, he said.
Bamigbetan, a former Public Relations Officer of the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) Students’ Union, was also a former Chief Press Secretary to then Lagos State Governor Tinubu; and had also served the state as Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
