Folarin Balogun continued his stellar form for the United States, earning his second consecutive Man-of-the-Match award during the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage on Friday.
His latest award was given for his impactful performance as the United States beat Australia 2–0 to secure a knockout stage ticket, becoming the second team after another co-hosts, Mexico to reach the Round of 32 with a game to spare.
The Nigerian-American striker pressured Australian defenders into forcing an own goal by Cameron Burgess for the opening goal in the 11th minute.
His relentless movement, hold-up play and link-up with teammates helped the co-hosts dominate possession and control the match, even in the absence of star attacker Christian Pulisic.
This follows his explosive FIFA World Cup debut against Paraguay, where Balogun scored twice in a 4–1 rout, becoming the first American to net a brace in a World Cup match since 1930 and claiming the first Man-of-the-Match honour.
Born in New York to Nigerian parents and raised in England, Balogun chose to represent the United States internationally after being eligible for England, Nigeria and the United States
