Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to political parties, candidates and residents of Osun State to ensure a peaceful governorship election, urging all contestants to respect the outcome of the poll.
In a post shared on his X account on Friday, the singer called for restraint before and during the election, warning against violence, intimidation and any actions capable of undermining the democratic process.
He urged voters to reject disorder and allow the electorate to determine the result freely, stressing that every vote should be respected. Davido also encouraged residents to demonstrate their commitment to peaceful coexistence and credible elections.
The singer, who is a nephew of Governor Ademola Adeleke, publicly endorsed the governor’s bid for a second term, declaring his support for both Adeleke and the Accord Party ahead of the election.
His latest comments came as political activities intensified across the state, with candidates stepping up campaigns in preparation for the governorship contest.
Davido had earlier appealed to all major contenders, including Governor Adeleke and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, to accept the decision of voters and ensure that the election remained free, fair and peaceful.
The musician’s involvement in the campaign has attracted public attention because of his influence among young Nigerians and his close family relationship with the incumbent governor.
Davido was actively involved in Adeleke’s successful 2022 governorship campaign, helping to mobilise support that contributed to his victory over the then governor, Gboyega Oyetola of the APC.
Ahead of the 2026 election, the singer has maintained a visible role in the governor’s campaign, joining the Accord Party and participating in efforts to encourage youth involvement in the electoral process.
He has also expressed concerns about the credibility of the forthcoming election, warning that he would seek international attention if the process was compromised. During a livestream with comedian and content creator Carter Efe, Davido said he would draw the attention of United States President Donald Trump if the election failed to meet expected standards.
Governor Adeleke, who was elected in 2022 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), later defected to the Accord Party ahead of the forthcoming governorship election. He is expected to face Bola Oyebamiji and other candidates as political parties intensify preparations for the poll.
