The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has apologised to President Bola Tinubu and Nigerians following the Super Falcons’ failure to reach the semi-finals of the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations WAFCON.
NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau said the federation, players and technical team shared the disappointment of Nigerians after the team’s exit.
Gusau also expressed appreciation for the support President Tinubu and the Federal Government had given the team throughout the tournament.
The NFF, however, said Nigeria still had an opportunity to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup through the Confederation of African Football (CAF) play-off route.
The federation pledged to fight for one of the available World Cup places and urged Nigerians to continue supporting the Super Falcons in their bid to secure qualification.
The NFF also said it would conduct a review of the team’s preparation, technical planning and logistics following its WAFCON campaign.
