The Oyo State Government has invited members of the public to submit memoranda to the Judicial Commission of Inquiry investigating the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
The government made the call in a statement posted on its official handle on Tuesday, saying the commission was seeking relevant information about the incident and the security response before, during and after the abduction.
“The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the Oriire abduction is calling for public memoranda,” the statement said.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, 14 August 2026.
According to the government, the commission is particularly interested in information relating to the abduction of pupils, students and teachers from communities including Esinele and Yawota.
Members of the public with relevant information have been urged to come forward, with the government saying their submissions could assist the commission in establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
It said memoranda should contain the contributor’s full name and contact details, alongside any supporting documents relevant to the submission.
Physical submissions can be made at the Conference Room, Office of the Head of Service, State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan. Submissions can also be sent electronically to oysjceoriireabduction@gmail.com.
The abduction occurred on 15 May 2026, when armed men attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area — Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele; Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; and L.A. Primary School.
The attack resulted in the abduction of 39 students and seven teachers, who were held for 56 days before being rescued in July.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the victims’ rescue, saying security agencies secured their release without making any concessions to the abductors.
Following the incident, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde called for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abduction, describing it as serious enough to warrant scrutiny beyond domestic institutions.
The state government said the judicial inquiry was part of efforts to establish what happened and examine the security response to the incident.
“The Oyo State Government remains committed to the safety of every community,” it added.
