The Federal Government has approved the immediate and full payment of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) to academic staff in federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education for the period covering January to August 2026.
Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed this shortly after inaugurating the Ministerial Committee on Accreditation on Wednesday.
CATA is a financial allowance provided to academic staff to support the purchase of essential tools and materials required for teaching, research and other academic activities.
According to Alausa, the approval is in line with the provisions of the 2025 Federal Government–Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) agreement.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing the agreement, including fulfilling its financial obligations to academic staff across federal tertiary institutions.
Alausa also disclosed that payment of the corresponding allowance to non-academic staff was being processed.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to address outstanding obligations to workers in the nation’s tertiary education system.
