American actor, filmmaker and producer Tyler Perry has said he has no plans to get married, pointing to the financial consequences he has seen people face after divorce.
Perry made the comments while appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show, where he was promoting his latest film, Why Did I Get Married Again?, the third instalment in his popular marriage-themed franchise.
The filmmaker said his decision was influenced by the experiences of people he knows who suffered significant financial losses following divorce.
“I’m never going to get married. It’s not about marriage; it’s about the divorce pandemic. Everybody I know who did well and went broke did it because of a divorce. So I’m good just being free,” Perry said.
Perry was previously in a long-term relationship with Ethiopian model and filmmaker Gelila Bekele. The former couple share a son, Aman.
They ended their relationship in 2020 but have continued to co-parent their child.
