Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has suggested that Nigerians who fail to acknowledge the country’s progress need what she described as “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses”.

She made the remark on Friday during the inauguration of the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a grassroots political group mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Speaking at the event, the First Lady said developments were taking place across the country, suggesting that some Nigerians were unable to recognise the changes.

“So things are happening in Nigeria, except, you know, those who don’t see; maybe we’ll give them some, you know, Bola Tinubu eyeglasses. We are doing that, JigiBola,” she said.

Jigi-Bola is an eye-care initiative introduced by Tinubu in 2001 during his tenure as Lagos State governor. The programme provided services such as free eye screenings, eyeglasses and surgery before being relaunched by the Lagos State Government in 2021.

Mrs Tinubu also pointed to improvements at Nigerian airports as evidence of progress, saying she hoped to benefit from faster travel.

Reflecting on her future after leaving office, the First Lady said she looked forward to departing the Presidential Villa in 2031 and enjoying a better Nigeria as an older woman.

“I want to leave Aso Rock, in 2031, by the grace of God, and enter a Nigeria that me as a 70-something-year-old woman will enjoy,” she said.

The First Lady subsequently formally commissioned the movement’s Abuja headquarters, expressing confidence in her husband’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“So to the glory of God, and for the victory of Mr President come 2027, I hereby formally commission the PBAT door-to-door movement campaign headquarters Abuja,” she said.

She also declared her support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the movement’s convener, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, as the group steps up efforts to mobilise support for the President’s second-term ambition.
