Some unknown gunmen have struck along Akure-Ado Ekiti Expressway, abducting some passengers in two vehicles at Iju area of Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

The number of the victims have not been ascertained and the details of the incident were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report.

It was, however, gathered that the incident happened on Thursday night while the vehicles involved were said to have been parked along the road.

A viral video showed two vehicles- a Toyota Corolla and a white Toyota Highlander which had been riddled with bullets, indicating that the hoodlums shot at the vehicles before taking the passengers into the forest.

However, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the incident but said the command could not give much details about the incident as the matter had not been reported at the police station by members of the family of the victims.

She said, “Men of the anti-kidnapping section of the command swung into action immediately the incident was reported and they have been combing the forest since.

“No official report from the family or families of the owners of the two vehicles and there is no report of missing people in the state.”

The PPRO added that the state police command would soon unravel what took place and rescue the victims if it was a case of abduction but she said it was not clear whether the kidnappers had contacted the family members for ransom.

A source in the community confirmed that the incident happened on Thursday night, saying the two vehicles were attacked, saying with the vehicles riddled with bullets, it was obvious that kidnapping must have taken place at the scene.

“The kidnappers might have marched the victims into the bush, the incident happened in the evening and it came to our knowledge on Friday morning when we saw the vehicles riddled with bullets”, the source narrated.
