Edo State’s governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, has accused outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki of obstructing a smooth transfer of power ahead of the 12 November end of Obaseki’s tenure.

On Friday, Obaseki alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is organizing the inauguration of his successor without input from the state government, claiming he had not received an invitation to the event.

In response, Godspower Inegbe, media aide to Okpebholo, stated that Obaseki has employed “every tool in his arsenal” to disrupt the handover process, accusing him of refusing to engage in transition protocols.

“Since Okpebholo’s victory, Obaseki has avoided any interaction with him, including a customary tour of Government House and a congratulatory call,” Inegbe said. “Obaseki’s claim of not being invited to the inauguration is both laughable and baseless.”

The statement urged Edo citizens to ignore Obaseki’s “reckless statements” and rally behind the incoming administration to address what it called the “wrongs” of the outgoing government.
