The Abeokuta Club has congratulated renowned jurist and elder statesman, Hon. Justice Demola Bakre (rtd.), on his 95th birthday, describing his life as a shining example of integrity, service and unwavering commitment to justice.
Bakre, a Life Vice President and member of the Board of Trustees of the club, turned 95 on Tuesday, 14 July 2026.
In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Olatunde Oluwasola, the club paid glowing tribute to the retired judge, highlighting his immense contributions to the legal profession, Egbaland and the the club.
‘The President, Dr Adewale Adeola, Executive Committee, Board of Trustees, Elders and entire membership of Abeokuta Club are pleased to announce the 95th birthday celebration of our revered Life Vice President and Member, Board of Trustees, Hon. Justice Demola Bakre, OON’, the statement read.
The club described Justice Bakre as a distinguished jurist, elder statesman and proud son of Egbaland whose life continues to inspire generations.
‘His life remains a testament to integrity, service and unwavering commitment to the rule of law, to Egbaland and to the ideals of Abeokuta Club’, the statement added.
According to the club, Justice Bakre’s illustrious career on the bench was marked by courage, scholarship and fairness, qualities that earned him the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger.
It noted that even in retirement, the nonagenarian has continued to serve as a moral guide and custodian of cherished values within the community and the club.
‘As Life Vice President and Trustee, Hon. Justice Bakre has provided decades of wise counsel, stability and leadership. His contributions have been instrumental in upholding the Club’s founding principles of fellowship, service and the promotion of Egbaland’s heritage’, the statement said.
The club further described him as a bridge between generations and a role model to young professionals across various fields.
‘At 95, Hon. Justice Bakre embodies grace, intellect and dignity. The Abeokuta Club is profoundly grateful for his life of impact and for the honour of continuing to draw from his wealth of experience’, it stated.
On behalf of the club, President of Abeokuta Club, Dr. Adewale Adeola, prayed for Justice Bakre’s continued good health, peace and happiness.
‘We congratulate the entire Bakre family for being custodians of such an enduring legacy. The Club also joins all sons and daughters of Egbaland, the legal community and indeed the nation to celebrate this rare milestone’, the statement added.
