Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has praised his nephew, Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, for projecting the Adeleke family name and the state on the global scene.
The praise followed a traditional panegyric delivered during Davido’s performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2026 in California, United States.
In a statement shared via his X handle alongside a video of the stage introduction, the governor described the moment as a proud one for the family and Osun State.
The video captures an electrifying buildup on the Gobi Stage, featuring intense red-and-yellow visuals, pyrotechnics and synchronised performers.
Central to the intro was the delivery of Davido’s oríkì, the traditional Yoruba panegyric (praise poetry) of Ede, the ‘If’ crooner’s hometown in Osun.
‘Another proud moment. My nephew @davido putting the family, our heritage and state on the global map’, the governor posted.
Davido, the only Nigerian artist on the official 2026 Coachella lineup, delivered a high-energy set that included fan favourites such as Dami Duro, Skelewu, Aye, If, and With You.
He further thrilled the crowd by bringing out fellow Nigerian star Adekunle Gold for their joint hit High, transforming the tent into a vibrant celebration of Afrobeats.
