Super Eagles striker Akor Adams opened his Serie A account for Venezia on Saturday, scoring his first league goal for the club in their 4-2 home defeat to Fiorentina.
Adams, who joined Venezia from Sevilla as the club’s record signing, ended his three-match wait for a league goal with a composed finish in the 22nd minute.
The Nigerian forward showed good awareness inside the box before calmly converting his opportunity to put Venezia ahead and register his first Serie A goal for the club.
However, Adams’ milestone was overshadowed by Venezia’s disappointing result as Fiorentina fought back to secure a 4-2 victory.
The striker had made an impressive start to his Venezia career in the Coppa Italia, scoring twice on his competitive debut and raising expectations ahead of his Serie A campaign.
He had, however, failed to find the net in his first three league appearances against Lecce, AC Milan and Frosinone.
His goal against Fiorentina will provide a timely confidence boost as he continues to settle at Venezia and adapt to Italian football.
Adams will now hope his first Serie A goal can spark a productive scoring run as Venezia seek to improve their fortunes in the league.
