Reigning world 100 metres hurdles champion and record holder, Tobi Amusan tops the list of six Nigerian track and field athletes who made the top 20 ranking in their respective events following the last update for the outgoing year by World Athletics.

Amusan was ranked the best sprint hurdler in 2022 following her incredible performances in the outgoing year highlighted by her 12.12 seconds world record run en route to her historic gold medal run in Oregon at the World Athletics Championships.

The 25-year-old is the first Nigerian after Falilat Ogunkoya (1998) to be in top ranking at the end of the season in a track and field discipline.

Long jumper, Ese Brume is ranked the third best in her event after winning silver at the world indoor and outdoor championships, and after jumping seven metres to win the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

The 26-year-old is also ranked the 61st best in the women’s overall ranking.
