The Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) says it has destroyed illicit drugs valued at about N50 million following raids conducted across Awka, the state capital, and surrounding communities.
Managing Director of SASA, Monday Nwokoye, disclosed this on Saturday during the operation, saying suspects arrested in connection with the illegal drug trade had been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
Nwokoye said the enforcement operation was carried out based on credible intelligence and reflected the agency’s commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking, touting and other criminal activities in the state.
“The raid underscores SASA’s commitment to dismantling illicit drug networks and curbing criminality across Anambra State,” he said. “Illicit drugs estimated to be worth about N50 million were recovered and destroyed, reaffirming the agency’s zero-tolerance stance on drug abuse and touting.”
He said the seized substances included cocaine, cannabis, tramadol, “Ghanaian Loud,” mkpulu mmiri, and other illicit drugs. According to him, the drugs were destroyed to prevent them from finding their way back into circulation.
Nwokoye warned drug traffickers and users to desist from their activities or face the full weight of the law, stressing that SASA would continue to enforce its mandate without fear or favour.
He also commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for supporting the agency’s operations and reaffirmed SASA’s commitment to ridding Anambra State of illicit drugs, touting and other forms of criminality.
The SASA boss urged residents to report suspicious activities in their communities, saying public cooperation remains essential to maintaining security and promoting a safer environment across the state.
