Suspected bandits have allegedly killed the Village Head of Galla in the Borgu Emirate of Niger State following an attack on his palace.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, 24 August 2026.
Sources said the traditional ruler was attacked after he allegedly warned the bandits to stay away from his community.
The warning was reportedly interpreted as an insult by the assailants, who later returned and attacked the village head at his palace.
The deceased was said to be a brother of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said he would provide further details on the incident.
However, the police had yet to issue an official statement as of the time of filing this report.
The killing has renewed concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of Borgu Emirate, where banditry and other criminal activities have reportedly increased in recent times.
