A staff member of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has died after being electrocuted while repairing a fault on an electricity pole in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The incident reportedly occurred over the weekend opposite the Federal Polytechnic Satellite Campus, where the BEDC worker was carrying out repairs following a disruption in electricity supply to residents in the area.

Eyewitnesses said the worker was on top of the electricity pole when he suddenly became weak and appeared disoriented.

His colleagues reportedly rushed to assist him before operatives of the Ekiti State Fire and Emergency Service arrived at the scene and helped bring him down from the pole.

He was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

However, hospital sources confirmed that the BEDC staff later died while receiving treatment.

The incident has reportedly raised concerns as it is the second electrocution involving an electricity worker at the location since 2012.

In the earlier incident, a staff member of the then Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), identified as Samuel Isaac, was electrocuted while carrying out his duties in the area.

The circumstances surrounding the latest incident remain unclear, while further details are expected as investigations continue.
