The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has appointed Deputy Comptroller General of Immigration, Caroline Wuraola Adepoju as the acting Comptroller General of Immigration.

The board oversees the Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Wura-Ola would be replacing Isah Jere.

Jere’s tenure had ended on 24th April but was extended by the then President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, a letter dated 26th May 2023, signed by the Secretary of the board, Ja’afaru Ahmed announced Wura-Ola as the acting CG. He said the appointment takes effect from 30th May 2023.

The letter read: “I write to convey the approval of the Chairman of the Board for you to cover duties of the Office of the Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service as the most senior Deputy Comptroller General. This instruction takes effect from Tuesday, 30th May 2023.

“You are enjoined to bring to bear your wealth of experience on the job as well as consolidate on the ongoing transformation of the service”.

Efforts to reach Ahmed proved abortive as his line was switched off. He had yet to respond to text messages sent to him as of press time.

A source said the extension given to Jere expired with the former President’s tenure.

The source said: “What I know is that the extension he got, his tenure ends with the president. When this happens the most senior officer would take his place in an acting capacity till a substantive CG is appointed”.
