Delta APC primary: Oborevwori emerges governorship flagbearer

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Oborevwori emerged unopposed in the party’s direct primary election conducted across the state on Thursday.

Results announced at the APC Secretariat in Asaba showed that the governor polled 345,375 votes to secure the party’s ticket.

Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, Vita Abba, declared Oborevwori winner of the exercise.

‘Having satisfied the constitutional requirements of the APC and scored the highest number of lawful votes cast, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is hereby declared the winner of the APC governorship primary election and returned as the party’s governorship candidate’, he stated.

Speaking after casting his vote in Oha Ward, Okpe Local Government Area, Oborevwori described the direct primary system as a reflection of internal democracy within the party.

He also called for unity among party members ahead of the 2027 elections.

The governor said the APC leadership in the state would continue reconciliation efforts aimed at sustaining peace and cooperation within the party.

Also speaking, the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Monday Onyeme, described the turnout during the primary as a sign of support for the administration.

The Delta APC Chairman, Solomon Arenyeka, commended party members for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

He said the party remained focused on maintaining unity ahead of the general elections.
