Edwin Clark dies at 97, 4 days after another elder statesman, Ayo Adebanjo

Four days after elder statesman, Pa Ayo Adebanjo died at 96 years old, another of his like, Chief Edwin Clark has passed on.

The leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Clark, who died earlier today (Tuesday), would have been 98 years old on 25 May.

A representative of the Clark family, Prof. C. C. Clark, confirmed the transition of the outspoken leader.

The statement read: ‘The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, wishes to announce the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark OFR, CON on Monday, 17th February 2025.

‘The family appreciates your prayers at this time. Other details will be announced later by the family’.

Apart from serving as Federal Commissioner of Information in 1975, the Ijaw leader and politician from Delta State worked with the administrations of Brigadier Samuel Ogbemudia, who was Military Governor of the now defunct Midwest State, and Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon between 1966 and 1975. In 1966, he was a member of an advisory committee to the Military Governor of the Mid-Western Region, Brigadier David Ejoor.

Clark was an unofficial advisor to President Goodluck Jonathan. He was a philanthropist who founded the Edwin Clark Foundation and established a university in his hometown, Kiagbodo.
