President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
The appointments were announced on Monday in a statement by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, who said 25 other individuals had also been named to lead or serve on the boards of 10 federal agencies and commissions.
Fayose, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, will head the REA board. Other members of the board include Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engr. Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as non-executive directors. The agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three previously appointed executive directors complete the board.
President Tinubu also appointed Major General Junaid Bindawa as Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission. Former Lagos State lawmaker Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas was named Secretary of the commission.
Dr Ogbole Ene Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun and Yakubu Umar Barde were appointed commissioners representing Benue, Oyo and Kaduna states respectively. Other members of the commission are Dr Mai Adamu Yau (Borno), Ginika Florence Tor (Enugu), Engr. Lawrence Okoh (Edo) and Bello Morenike Iyabode (Kogi).
Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who was previously appointed Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, has been redeployed as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
The President also named Dr Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc, and Dr Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
Engr. Julius Oloro, a former local government council chairman, was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation in Kwara State, succeeding Dr A. R. Kamal, who died in January.
President Tinubu also constituted the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, appointing Dr Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as Chairman. Other board members are Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.
Shuni Muhammad Dahiru was appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Prof. Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund in April.
The President also appointed Gisaor Vincent Iorja as Executive Director (Finance) of the Federal Housing Authority, replacing Mathias Byuan, who resigned to contest the Benue State governorship election.
Iorja is an economist, legal scholar and academic who currently serves as Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission.
According to Onanuga, all the appointments take immediate effect.
