The Federal Government has approved a special fire detection and alarm system to be installed in all firefighting stations across the country.

After the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Interior Minister, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola said that FEC approved the full business case for a project on the National Fire Detection and Alarm System.

The system will incorporate life safety systems, networking, monitoring, and dispatching in real-time through a Public-Private Partnership arrangement.

The system will be fully digitised, facilitating a prompt response to any fire emergency, at no cost to the government.

Nigerians who desire to have an automatic fire alarm system installed in their homes can subscribe to it.

If a fire breaks out, the system will raise an alarm at each of the fire service stations nationwide.

The National Fire Detection and Alarm System will ensure that fire emergencies are detected and responded to promptly. This will prevent the loss of lives and property due to fire outbreaks.

The system will also enhance the efficiency of fire service operations by allowing for the real-time monitoring of fire emergencies across the country.

The system will be fully digitised, making it easier to track and analyse data on fire emergencies. This will help fire service personnel to develop more effective strategies for preventing and responding to fire emergencies.

Since it will be implemented through a Public-Private Partnership arrangement, private companies will be involved in the design, installation, and maintenance of the system. This will ensure that the system is implemented efficiently and cost-effectively.

Additionally, the involvement of private companies will enable the system to be maintained and updated regularly, ensuring that it remains effective over the long-term.
