The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has formalised a partnership with CIG Motors Co. Limited to implement a nationwide automobile maintenance training programme for 365 young Nigerians under the Federal Government’s ‘Skill to Wealth’ initiative.

A statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Iliya Rhoda Ishaku, revealed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday, 8 May 2025, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja. The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, signed on behalf of the federal government. In contrast, Chief Diana Chen, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CIG Motors, signed on behalf of the company.

The training programme will be delivered across the country’s six geopolitical zones, with designated centres located in Lagos (South West), Enugu (South East), Akwa Ibom (South South), Plateau (North Central), Adamawa (North East), and Kaduna (North West).

Under the MoU, the ministry will coordinate the programme’s logistical and operational aspects, including monitoring and evaluation.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), CIG Motors will provide the ministry or the federal government with free technical training and professional expertise.

The agreement is set to run for an initial period of five years, with provisions for automatic renewal unless either party gives notice of intent to terminate at least six months before the end of the term.

This collaboration is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to implement the ‘Skill to Wealth’ programme, which aims to equip Nigerian youths and vulnerable populations with practical skills for self-reliance and employment generation.

Professor Yilwatda praised CIG Motors for its commitment to youth empowerment, describing the initiative as a timely intervention that complements the Federal Government’s poverty reduction and job creation agenda. He emphasised that the project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises inclusive growth and sustainable development.
