The Kano Police Command headquarters in Bompai was engulfed by fire on Saturday aftertoon, the cause of which has yet to be established.
According to witnesses, the fire, which started from the Provost’s office, spread to the Finance Department, Conference Room, the office of the Police Public Relations Officer, the office of the Assistant Police Commissioner (Administration), and that of the Deputy Commissioner (Administration), among others.
It was learned that the entire offices on the top floor of the Police Command built since 1967 were engulfed by the fire, while the office of the Police Commissioner was not affected.
According to a source, several unsuccessful efforts were made by officers and men of the Command, including using manual process to put out the fire.
A witness said that fire fighters arrived at the scene about two hours after it started and swung into action.
The spokesman for sate Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi said he was still collating details of the incident.
The cell phone of the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Abdullahi Kiyawa was not reachable as at press time.
The Police Command has however sent an SOS message to inform the Force Headquarters that the inferno had been put under control.
