The German Consul General to Nigeria, Mr Weert Borner, has mulled possible collaborations with the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Abeokuta, towards bolstering agricultural innovations that will aid sustainable food production in the country.

According to a statement on Saturday, the Consul General disclosed this during his visit to the university alongside his wife, Dr Imke Borner.

The statement partly read, “Borner underscored the critical importance of addressing food security, education, and housing, while also highlighting the pressing issue of climate change, which demands global attention and concerted efforts.

“He particularly stressed the significance of enhancing fertilizer production with renewable energy sources, foreseeing substantial advancements in agricultural output through innovative approaches”.

Speaking earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Prof Babatunde Kehinde, expressed gratitude to Borner and his wife for their visit, saying that it symbolised the enduring partnership between Germany and FUNAAB.

He emphasised the university’s commitment to fostering collaboration through initiatives such as faculty exchanges, joint research endeavours, and the integration of contemporary agricultural technologies into the curriculum.

The acting Registrar, Mrs Oluwatoyin Dawodu, appreciated the German Consul General for the enriching public lecture, adding that the university was hopeful this would be the start of good things between FUNAAB and the German government.
