The mother of a slain pregnant lawyer, Mrs Sherifat Salami has revealed that she sold oranges to pay for the education and training of her daughter, Mrs Bolanle Raheem to become a lawyer.

She made the revelation while speaking to the Lagos Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alabi during a visit to the family’s residence in Ajah on Tuesday.

Mrs Salami was overwhelmed with grief over the murder of her daughter allegedly by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Drambi Vandi on Christmas Day in Ajah.

“I cannot see my ‘The Law’ again. People usually call her ‘The Law’. She was taken away from me”, Salami said through tears.

“She was pregnant with twins. She died with her glory. She left a five-year-old daughter behind and they took her away”.

Salami went on to describe the impact of her daughter’s death on her granddaughter, who asked her about the reason for her crying.

“On Monday, my granddaughter came to me and said ‘grandma Iju Ishaga, I saw you yesterday when you were crying. You were shouting; is it because of my mummy?’ I said ‘yes’. Then she came again and told me, ‘Pastor Jerry said what God cannot do does not exist. So, grandma, stop crying’. She kissed me on the cheek”.

The Lagos Police command has forwarded its investigation report on the incident to the Force Headquarters.

According to sources, the report confirms that the ASP fired the shot that killed Raheem and that the shooting was unprovoked and avoidable.

“Because he is a commissioned officer, it is only the Police Service Commission that can take disciplinary actions against him”, said a source. “What the command did was carry out an investigation and the report has been forwarded to the IG who will make recommendations to the PSC.

“It’s summary dismissal and prosecution that may be his fate. It is very unfortunate that after 33 years in service, his career will end disgracefully”.
